Ravintola Baobab

So over the weekend, Juho and I were tired of eating Chicken and Salad as we have been doing (mostly because of my so-called diet!) so we thought we would make use of our little Groupon coupons and went for an African lunch date.

Now for me, this was very exciting, as you all know my love of anything African and I always enjoyed the African food in Uni, so I was looking forward to this. We went to a little restaurant called "Baobab" in Helsinki.

It was a tiny little place with UB40 playing in the background and who doesn't love a little reggea music to keep you in the groove? (sigh, I really don't know where I come up with these lame statements.) Anyhoo, it's a fairly new restaurant, opened 5 months ago. The owner was lovely! As all Africans are, he was friendly and talkative and it's been awhile since I've had an exciting conversation with a waiter!

I had a dish called 'Yassa' which was spicy chicken cooked with vegetables and onions and Juho ordered the 'Domoda' which was chicken cooked in peanut butter (interesting, I know). I must say, they were both quite nice and had such a fresh and unique taste. It's been awhile since we've had something so different. The food was rich in different flavours but none of them too strong.

On the whole, it was a lovely lunch date! So if ever you are in the area, go try out the food at Baobab. I'm sure you'll love it!

Have a lovely Monday,
Keshi

[edit by Juho: The address is Kolmas linja 36, Helsinki, Finland]
